A throw-in is provided if a ball leaves play off an opponent on one of the sidelines. It is said to be a goal kick if it leaves the field of a play off an attacking player on the goal line. It may be a corner kick if it comes off a defender.
The Football Offside Law
Offside may be declared when a pass is played to the last defender and an attacking player is in front of them. The offside zone is meant to deter players from waiting near the opposing team’s goal for a ball.
They must be behind the last defender to be inside when the ball is played. If a player is deemed offside and in front of the final defender, the other team will be given a free kick. A player cannot be caught offside while in their half.
A defender does not include the goalkeeper. However, the player is not considered offside if the ball is played backward and he is in front of the final defender.
